Profile


George Obremski, a renowned photographer and educator, has literally traveled the world to take his photographs.  He has a comprehensive experienced working with exceptional weather and lighting conditions.  Whether in black and white, he is also an advocate of color and his vibrant color photographs use light and effect to create unforgettable images.


Nikon has proclaimed him to be  “one of today’s greatest photographers”.  A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, which has written that  “he has captured haunting portraits in time,”  and  The University of the Arts, which recognizes him as one of their  “notable alumni “.   For the past 25 years he has distinguished himself with his fine-art photography, editorial and advertising assignments, as well as exhibitions and teaching.  Noted photography critic A.D. Colman for the Sunday N.Y. Time had written that  “his images are full of restrained force”.


George Obremski’s distinguished career in photography began after he was a Fulbright Scholar and a Danish Marshall’s Award recipient in the 80’s and since then, included among his many award for excellence is a  Silver Medal from the

Art Director’s Club as well as awards from  Graphics Press,  Photographics,  PPA, Audubon,  Fuji,  Communications Arts  and the  Santa Fe Center for Visual Arts.


Obremski’s personal work has been in exhibitions in major museums and universities which include the Museum of Modern Art, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University,  the University of New Mexico,  Musoe Correr in Venice and Le Musee Francis de la Photography in Versailles and he is represented in many museums and private collections including the  Museum of the City of New York, The Library of Congress and IBM.  A review example is  "What ever his means, they justify the end in his powerful, life-size photographs of figure and fragments of human form. A sense of stillness and age combine with an essence of

the restrained violence that result from compression to give these prints their power."


His images and articles have been featured in numerous photographic periodicals including  Popular Photography, Modern Photography, Camera 35 as well as Kodak International Photography and American Illustrated, published by the US Information Agency featuring America's most outstanding photographers

and distributed internationally.  He also appeared in scores of international photographic periodicals including  Fotographia Italia of Italy,  Aktuell Fotographia of Sweden and Creative Camera and Camera of England.  It was written that  "his attention to the graphic arrangement of visual elements, gives weight to even the most casual of his observations" and  "Achieving the ultimate image, whether with a brush or a lens, is never simple. It's this dissatisfaction that drives an artist. He must be obsessed by the idea that the image he has been striving for is still to come. Obremski continues to peruse the making of that ultimate image. If indeed he hasn't found it already.


George Obremski has been featured in the Institute of International Education's Annual Report as well as served a number of times on the selection committee of the IIE for future Fulbright Recipients.  He has lectured and taught creative photography at many universities and private school including  Philadelphia College of Art,  School of Visual Arts,  Cooper Union,  The Fashion Institute

of Technology,  New York University,  Columbia Greene College,  and The University of the Arts. 


His photographs have appeared in scores of books, including  Time-Life Books,  The Nikon Image, Favorite Places -a Travel and Leisure book- and The Best of Food and Wine.  His commercial photography has appeared in over 100 publication including Harpers Bazaar,  Vogue,  Town & Country,  House and Garden,  Architectural Digest,  The New York Sunday Times,  Travel and Leisure and Food and Wine.  Architectural Digest's art director, Jeff Nemeroff has come to count on George Obremski and says  "George possesses the talent to produce the unexpected"  he says.  "The photographs will be a little more artful, more personal, more surprising. Through his photographs, the viewer gets a real sense of what they might experience if visiting the location".
